How to perform the BIOS Update on your Onyx Venus

Microsoft is transitioning its Secure Boot certificate infrastructure from the original certificates introduced in 2011 to a newer certificate infrastructure introduced in 2023. The upcoming changes, scheduled to take effect from 19 October 2026, require compatible system firmware in order to support the newer Secure Boot certificates.

More information on Microsoft’s Secure Boot certificate transition can be found here:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/servicing/os/secure-boot/2025/06/windows-secure-boot-certificate-expiration-and-ca-updates

After 19 October 2026, affected systems that have not been updated will begin to enter a “degraded” state, where they will no longer receive security updates for their Secure Boot certificates or the Windows Boot Manager and will begin to display an “Unsecure” status under System Security. Over time, this may also affect BitLocker and other Windows security features or processes that rely on the Secure Boot certificate infrastructure.

Which systems require an update?

The following BIOS versions are currently the approved versions for the affected Onyx Venus platforms:

Venus 224 / 244:          BVEN3S00.V30
Venus 224P / 244P:     BVEN5400.V10

This means that any Onyx Venus 224/244 system running a BIOS version earlier than BVEN3S00.V30 will require the BIOS update.
In addition, any Onyx Venus 224P/244P system running a BIOS version earlier than BVEN5400.V10 will require the BIOS update.

Legacy systems such as the Venus 222/223/243 do not support Windows 11 and therefore are not affected.

The updated Onyx BIOS firmware incorporates support for this newer certificate infrastructure and is therefore required on all affected Venus systems to ensure they remain compatible with Microsoft’s ongoing Secure Boot changes.

The BIOS and Embedded Controller firmware updates also contain various manufacturer fixes and improvements, including power-related fixes and additional BIOS configuration options.

How to check your current BIOS version

There are two simple methods for checking your BIOS version:

1. Directly from the system BIOS

• Power on or restart the Venus system.
• When the Onyx splash screen appears, repeatedly press DELETE.
• The current BIOS version is displayed on the BIOS Summary screen.

2. Directly from the system BIOS

• Open the Onyx Orion Manager application.
• Open the Device List.
• Locate the required Venus system.
•
The current BIOS version is displayed in the BIOS Version column.

If you are still unsure which version you are using, please contact Parity Medical for further advice.

How to deploy the BIOS update

There are two supported deployment methods available:

1. USB deployment:

For customers who do not use Onyx Orion, we have prepared manually deployable USB update packages.

Separate packages are available for:

• Venus 224 / 244
• Venus 224P / 244P

To help differentiate between the two Venus system packages, the download buttons for the Venus 224/244 systems are coloured dark blue, while those for the Venus 224P/244P are coloured green. Files that apply to both systems are coloured bright blue.

The packages include the required firmware, deployment utilities, and supporting documentation. The deployment process has been designed to be as straightforward as possible and can be performed by a suitably competent technician on each individual system. We’ve also highlighted some important notes at the bottom of this page.

Customers will need to arrange access to each system and prepare a suitable FAT32-formatted USB drive.

2. ORION remote deployment:

For customers using Onyx Orion, the BIOS and EC firmware can also be deployed remotely using the Orion management platform. This is particularly suitable for customers with larger estates, as it removes the requirement for a technician to physically visit each individual system.

The appropriate CPK firmware package is required for the specific Venus model, and the customer’s Orion environment must meet the required software version and licensing requirements.

To help differentiate between the two Venus system packages, the download buttons for the Venus 224/244 systems are coloured dark blue, while those for the Venus 224P/244P are coloured green. Files that apply to both systems are coloured bright blue.

We’ve also highlighted some important notes at the bottom of this page.

Important:

Please ensure that the deployment procedure is followed exactly as documented. The BIOS and Embedded Controller firmware must only be applied to the appropriate system model and must not be interrupted once programming has commenced.

An incorrectly applied or interrupted firmware update may result in system malfunction and, in the worst-case scenario, render the system non-functional. Please therefore ensure that the systems have a stable power supply throughout the update process and that the supplied firmware files and deployment utilities are used exactly as provided.

Please note that any system damage or failure resulting from incorrect application of the firmware, use of an incorrect firmware package, or deviation from the supplied deployment procedure may not be covered under the manufacturer’s warranty.

If you have any questions regarding the firmware packages, deployment procedure, or the applicability of the updates to your systems, please do not hesitate to contact Parity Medical’s support team.

Technical escalation

If you require assistance beyond the information and documentation provided, or if you encounter an unexpected issue during the deployment process, please contact Parity Medical’s Customer Success team so that the issue can be assessed and the appropriate technical support provided.

To be able to help you, we would need to know:

• Which Venus model(s) you have in your estate.
• Whether you are using Onyx Orion for device management or if you have opted for the manual USB deployment method. • If available, it would also be helpful to provide the current BIOS version and an indication of the approximate number of systems requiring the update.

You can speak to the Customer Success team via Live Chat, by phone (0151 343 0500, option 2), or via email (info@paritymedical.com).
